Music that Motivates

Welcome back to Amazing Mobile Music Instruction. Today we will talk about music that motivates you.

There a few ways to look at that last sentence. There is the music that motivates you as a listener, and music you participate in by playing. Sounds obvious, right? I get them mixed up all the time. I love Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, for instance. I am constantly, accidentally comparing myself, as a musician to these Icons of Classic Rock! What a disappointment I am?! This zaps my motivation to play/practice/write. However, the music in our heads that needs to come out, requires we get past that obstacle.

When we use Iconic musicians as a motivation to get better at Our music, it's a greater starting point. Play and write to your strengths as you practice. Embrace mistakes made. Repeat them. Try to play a few things you aren't good at, everytime you pick up or sit down to your instrument. You have the opportunity to find that interesting change no one has ever heard! You could happen upon the greatest chord progression ever assembled! The possibilities are great!

I do my best to remember that I have my own music to make. Chuck Barry, The Beatles, Eric Clapton can become an inspiration to drive us beyond our current abilities. With comparison, beware.
